Supporting People Touched by Adoption
- How do you help your child navigate feeling different than others?
- Are you thinking of expanding your family through adoption?
- Wonder if your child's challenges are typical for an adopted person or something more?
- Uncertain how to explain difficult information about your child's history?
- Are you thinking of searching for or re-connecting with birth family?
Meet with me to explore these questions and create a plan to move forward. I provide consultations to help people like you, looking for direction, but not knowing how to start.
Adoption by definition is a one time process, but it often adds complexities and questions that are unique to those touched by it. Challenges related to adoption can surface throughout one's life. They are sometimes very clear, such as how to answer a child's questions about their difficult history. Other times they can take one by surprise, such as feeling especially alone and different as a teen or young adult. What may feel like a unique and isolating challenge, may in fact be quite normal for a person who is adopted.
I am here to offer support and guidance through these challenging times. I have over seven years of specific training and experience working with people touched by adoption. I offer assistance to children, teens, adults, and parents in a safe space to explore what issues may be normal under the circumstances, and what challenges may point to something more complex. The opportunities I have had meeting with adopted people of all ages, parents, and birth parents have given me expertise in a wide range of adoption experiences.
I offer consultation regarding these complexities and questions related to adoption. Consultations provide a time to share you or your family's challenges and questions, while I offer perspective and specific feedback based on my experience. Sometimes consultations are useful around a specific topic, such as how to share difficult information with a child, or how to prepare for a birth country trip or reunion. They may also be helpful to determine if you or your family member is experiencing something normal for an adopted person, or a challenge that would benefit from ongoing therapy, or other referrals and resources.
If you would like to talk about scheduling a consultation or have more questions about how I support people touched by adoption, please contact me today.
