About Lynette

I've always enjoyed helping people and creating art, so it was natural for me to dedicate my professional life to helping people in creative ways.
Process also intrigues me - the process of living life and finding our way, as well as how people think and express themselves. I've had the honor of helping to guide many kids and adults alike in the process of learning about themselves through art. This is a skill I've developed over fifteen years of experience helping kids and teens in schools, children and families involved in foster care, and people of all ages touched by adoption.
My professional journey began with a Bachelor's degree in General Fine Art from Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore, Maryland. I then completed my Master's of Science in Art Therapy at Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk, Virginia. Since then, I've continued my education with courses in multi cultural counseling, suicide prevention, various art therapy approaches, and focus on complex families. I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and Registered Board Certified Art Therapist.
My approach is eclectic and collaborative, with clients taking the lead in creating their goals. I focus on strengths and try to help people notice patterns in their life. If willing, I help people try creative approaches to expression and building understanding. This may be in the form of drawing, writing, choosing objects with which they connect, metaphor, or just finding ways to be inspired. With children, I encourage play as a form of expression and skill building. I also like to help clients reflect on how the past might be impacting them currently.
While my work with clients is tailored to their needs, it is informed by art and narrative therapy, family systems approaches, cognitive behavioral therapies, and play therapy.
